With Robert Lewandowski expected to move on at the end of the season, FC Barcelona are in the market for a top-quality centre-forward to replace him.

Several big names have been linked, but the player who is seen as the top target and generates the most consensus at the club happens to be Atletico Madrid superstar Julian Alvarez.

The Argentine forward has been in brilliant form since joining the Rojiblancos in 2024 and Barça now see him as an ideal player to succeed Lewandowski as the team’s new No. 9.

PSG also want Julian Alvarez

However, according to Sky Sports (h/t SPORT), PSG are keeping a close eye on Julian Alvarez as a potential target for next summer.

The reigning champions of France and Europe, managed by Luis Enrique, are looking to add a new striker to their ranks and see the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner as the ideal fit.

It could be a concerning development for Barcelona, who see Alvarez as their top target to reinforce the centre-forward slot for the long term.

Any club interested in Alvarez, though, will have a tough task of signing him as they will need to negotiate a transfer with Atletico Madrid.

The former Manchester City forward, after all, is shielded by a mammoth release clause worth €500 million.

The Rojiblancos, for their part, have no intentions of selling Alvarez next summer. So, it will take an enormous offer for Barcelona or PSG to change the Spanish capital club’s stance on their ace goalscorer.

So far this season, the 25-year-old Argentine has bagged nine goals and five assists from 18 matches across all competitions for Atletico Madrid. His contract with the club runs until 2030.
