Serie A giants Inter Milan were reportedly keen to bring PSV Eindhoven veteran Ivan Perisic back to San Siro in January.
Speaking to ESPN via FCInterNews, PSV technical director Earnie Stewart shed light on one of the longest-running transfer sagas.
With Denzel Dumfries injured and Luis Henrique out of form, Cristian Chivu was desperate to reinforce the right wing in January.
Furthermore, the Serie A leaders had identified several targets, including Ivan Perisic.
However, the Peasants were never enthusiastic about selling the 37-year-old, who has been a key piece of Peter Bosz’s team this season.
Meanwhile, the Croatian winger was reportedly hellbent on returning to his old stomping ground.
Moreover, he had even informed Inter of his desire to come back, but PSV never entertained the sale.
Now that the dust has finally settled, Stewart must have felt compelled to explain what really happened during the transfer window.

According to Stewart, PSV were aware of Inter’s interest in Perisic.
However, he confirmed that the Nerazzurri had never contacted the Eindhoven outfit to discuss the transfer.
“We never spoke directly with any club about Ivan’s situation,” Stewart clarified. “We learned from his agency that there was interest from Inter and another club, but we never received an offer.”
Stewart also admitted that there was a lot of fuss around Perisic toward the end of the January transfer window.
“Yes, a lot has been written about Perisic, but we never heard anything,” he added. “We talked about it with the player.
“He was contacted [the indirect reference is to Inter], apparently that’s how things work these days. But he’s staying, that’s it.”
In addition to Perisic, Chivu’s men were also interested in Al-Ittihad star Moussa Diaby.
