Liam Morrison is looking to leave QPR on loan this month after finding it tough to get minutes at Loftus Road.

Queens Park Rangers are at risk of losing one of their centre-backs this month, as he eyes a place in Scotland's World Cup squad later this year.

It's been a mixed season so far for the R's, with their form consistently inconsistent, but they return to Championship action this weekend in 11th and just three points outside the play-off places.

Nevertheless, as with any January transfer window, there will be a real desire to close the gap to those chasing a place in next season's Premier League lineup, and bringing in new stars will be at the forefront of Julien Stephan's mind.

However, for Liam Morrison, a Loftus Road exit could be on the cards this month, after making just 16 league appearances for QPR in 2025/26.

Liam Morrison wants QPR departure in January transfer window

At 22, Morrison's career has been quite the story already, as he came through the ranks at Bayern Munich before a loan move to Wigan Athletic in 2023/24 gave the defender his first taste of the EFL.

However, since his permanent switch to QPR in July 2024, game time has not been easy to come by for the Scottish centre-back, and now Pete O'Rourke has reported that he is seeking a loan move this month away from the R's.

With Scotland preparing for the World Cup, Morrison wants to have as much time on the pitch as possible, as Steve Clarke will already be drafting his plans for his squad for this year's tournament in Canada, Mexico and the USA.

The former Bayern Munich youngster is yet to make an appearance at a senior level for his nation, but he has 11 caps for Scotland U21s to his name, and 23 at other age groups collectively.

QPR may not want to send Liam Morrison to another Championship club

Morrison has started in all 12 of his appearances that he has made in the Championship this season, with a run of seven straight games in the second tier to start the campaign making it look like he was going to be a key man for Stephan in 2025/26.

However, it's been tougher for the young Scot to find minutes in recent months, and he will be looking at a move to another side in the division to help earn his place in Steve Clarke's squad this summer.

But, with QPR pushing for the play-offs, they may be reluctant to send Morrison out on loan to a rival, and therefore he may have to look towards League One or potentially Scotland for a move.

Wigan would be a fantastic choice if he wishes to stay in England considering his history at the club, but playing top flight football in his home country may just give him the best chance of achieving his World Cup dream.
