It's not been the most productive of sophomore years at QPR for young midfielder Kieran Morgan.

The 19-year-old burst onto the scene last season in his first campaign in senior football, after initially arriving to bolster their development squad numbers in May 2024 following his departure from Tottenham. He made 30 Championship appearances last year, 19 of which came from the off.

Many were touting him to make that step up to becoming a regular starter this season. However, it just hasn't worked out, with Nicolas Madsen being the man to establish himself in the middle next to Jonathan Varane, and summer arrival Isaac Hayden stepping into their roles when one of them gets injured.

Given that he's still a teenager and was making inroads in the Tottenham Hotspur academy before he arrived at Loftus Road, there's clearly potential there, and FLW's QPR fan pundit, Louis Moir, feels that he needs a year in League One to help harness that.

QPR fan pundit predicts a summer loan move for Kieran Morgan

There were some last-minute murmurs about a short-term loan move for Morgan towards the end of the most recent winter transfer window, as third-tier side Luton Town were credited with interest in the 19-year-old.

In the end, a move wasn't sanctioned, as Sam Field's departure to Norwich City had already left the Hoops a man short in the middle, and Julien Stephan likely wanted to keep the youngster around for depth.

In the summer, though, Moir doesn't feel that anything should be standing in his way from leaving for the year to earn some much-needed game time.

"There were rumours that Morgan could have left the club in January, but it's getting to the point now where he desperately needs a loan," Louis told FLW.

"He came onto the scene last season and did well for the most part, but this year, he's struggled to play games. Apart from coming on a few times, he hasn't done anything, and it's been hard for him.

"He'd have had expectations of himself to be more involved, but I'm not sure anyone predicted the performances of Madsen this season. Obviously, Varane played a lot before he got injured, and Hayden has come in for him."

The fan pundit actually feels that this season has been a bit of a culture shock for the young midfielder, and the sporadic bench appearances actually haven't painted him in a good light.

Indeed, he feels that, if Morgan was good enough to play, he would, and therefore feels that a move away next season will give him a refresh and put him in a good place to hit the ground running back at Loftus Road come the 2027/28 campaign.

"The few times he's come on, he's been quite awful, to be honest, but that's not his fault. A player of his age needs to be getting a lot more minutes under his belt, and a move to League One would do him wonders, as he has tonnes of ability," Moir continued.

"This season has been a bit of a bad one in terms of his development, but it also shows that he hasn't really been good enough to feature, so he needs a full season on loan, and he'll come back a better player.

"It could also toughen him up a little. He hasn't had much experience at the first-team level. He just suddenly came in, played a lot, and many felt we'd see more of him, but it's just not to be this season.

"Go out on loan, come back, and we might have a guy who is capable of playing more than he has done this season."

It may be hard to remember, but at the start of the campaign, Morgan was first-choice, starting each of the opening three games of the season - a three-game slate that saw the Hoops pick up just one point and concede 10 goals, including seven in one game against Coventry City.

It was an awful start to the campaign for Julien Stephan and his new side, but once the Frenchman got settled and realised who was among his best eleven and go-to subs, results improved. Unfortunately for Morgan, he wasn't part of that.

The 19-year-old has been in and around first-team affairs all year, making almost every matchday squad in league action this season, but he's been left on the bench now in more games than he's played in, and he clearly needs a change of scenery.

The former Tottenham academy man has bags of talent and untapped potential, and QPR wouldn't want that to go to waste at their club.

So, sending him out on loan to a third-tier side, and then reassessing him a year later, seems like the wisest and most popular option for all parties.
