Deportivo Alavés have parted company with Eduardo “Chacho” Coudet and appointed Quique Sánchez Flores as head coach until 2028, the club said in a statement. The change comes after almost a season and a half of Coudet in charge.

Coudet arrived in Vitoria-Gasteiz on 2 December 2024 and extended his deal to June 2026 after steering survival last season. His exit leaves the team in a fight to stay up, following defeat to Levante.

The separation was by mutual agreement, ending a tenure of 55 matches across LaLiga EA Sports and the Copa del Rey. Alavés also thanked Coudet and his staff and wished them well for the future.

Sánchez Flores brings extensive top-flight and European experience, having managed Valencia, Atlético de Madrid, Getafe and Espanyol. Internationally he coached Benfica, winning the League Cup, and Watford. He guided Atlético to the 2009/10 UEFA Europa League and the UEFA Super Cup that same year.

He will travel to Vitoria-Gasteiz today and take charge immediately. Alavés visit Valencia at Mestalla on Sunday.
