Racing de Santander will be Real Sociedad’s first pre-season opponents on 18 July at Zubieta, the day before the World Cup final, with kick-off time to be confirmed. According to Diario Vasco, the club set out the plan on Thursday.

The game sits within the opening training block in Zubieta, while details of a roughly week-long camp outside Gipuzkoa remain undecided. Rino wants time away from the usual working environment to build togetherness around the clock.

The squad are due to report back on 4 July for 2026/27. Racing, newly promoted to the top flight after a dream campaign, provide the first test. The venue is primarily used by the women’s team and Sanse have also played there this season.

It will be an unusual opener. World Cup players Oyarzabal, Sucic, Kubo and Guedes will be absent. It is unclear whether any new arrivals or Sanse youngsters will be available to Matarazzo.

Real and Racing last met seven years ago, also in a pre-season friendly. The El Sardinero side edged that contest by a single goal, scored by Cesar Díaz.

Sunday 5 July’s training session will be open to supporters and media. Spectator access for the Racing friendly has not been specified, though it appears it could be permitted, as with last summer’s first pre-season test against Pau of France.
