Racing reject Vasco bid as Santiago Sosa move drifts | OneFootball

Vasco da Gama’s move for Santiago Sosa has stalled after Racing refused their terms. According to PaponaColina, the Argentine club rejected the proposal despite a face-to-face push this week.

Executive director Admar Lopes travelled to Argentina to persuade Racing’s board. The Avellaneda side held firm and turned down what was on the table.

Vasco had offered an initial loan with an obligation to buy in 2027. Investor Marcos Lamacchia joined the talks, yet Racing demanded 50% of the total fee upfront to release the captain, a sum Vasco’s cash flow cannot cover now.

Racing argued they cannot lose a key reference without immediate compensation and must find a like-for-like in this international window. With a 25% sell-on share due to Atlanta United, they consider full instalments unworkable for any replacement.

Sosa is keen to play in Brazil and wear Vasco’s shirt in the second half of the year. Coach Pedro Emanuel’s staff view him as the leadership profile the squad lacks. Even so, the situation points to Vasco shelving talks and turning to options such as Kevin Castaño of River Plate.

The club are racing to plug gaps while navigating their transition with 777 Partners. Football chiefs aim to bring in up to five signings within an annual R$ 100 million plan to ease the sporting crisis. They are tracking quick South American solutions eligible before the Copa do Brasil last 16.
