Vasco open talks for Kevin Castaño after Racing shift stalls Sosa deal | OneFootball

Vasco have opened formal talks with River Plate in Argentina to sign 25-year-old midfielder Kevin Castaño, moving quickly to avoid being short in midfield for the rest of the year. According to PaponaColina, the Colombia international played at the 2026 World Cup.

The approach accelerated after major frustration in negotiations for Racing's Santiago Sosa. Vasco believed their Plan A was virtually done last weekend, with only minor bureaucracy outstanding, before Racing reversed a verbal agreement and sought fresh financial terms, stalling the deal.

An initial package for Sosa had been around US$ seven million, about R$ 39 million. Racing then pushed for a higher overall figure and a sizeable upfront payment.

Irritated by the shift and with the window ticking, the Rio de Janeiro club put those talks on ice and turned to the River Plate midfielder.

Castaño has built a solid international career across Águilas Doradas, Cruz Azul and Krasnodar in Russia.

At the 2026 World Cup he came on in Colombia’s matches against Uzbekistan and Portugal. He did not score, but completed 100% of his passes in his minutes on the pitch.
