Local authorities have suspended Sunday’s friendly between Racing and Universidad de Chile in Concepción, prioritising emergency services as wildfires spread across the region.

The organiser and both clubs were informed the pre-season match could not take place. The club said in a post that it was called off after a catastrophe was declared due to fires affecting much of the area.

The game had been scheduled for 19:00 at Estadio Municipal de Concepción. Racing’s 2026 campaign is due to begin on Saturday in La Plata against Gimnasia.

Racing expressed regret, thanked supporters for their understanding and offered solidarity to those affected. The squad will return to Buenos Aires to resume regular activities.

The southern coastal city, and the Biobío and Ñuble regions, are experiencing severe wildfires that have reached urban areas, prompting President Gabriel Boric to decree a state of catastrophe.
