Ramón Sosa is enjoying his best spell for Palmeiras, emerging as a leading option for Abel Ferreira despite fierce competition in attack.

According to Nosso Palestra, the Paraguayan has forced his way up the pecking order alongside Paulinho, Vitor Roque, Flaco López, Mauricio, Felipe Anderson and Jhon Arias.

He hit the winner away to Coritiba in the Campeonato Brasileiro, then served a suspension that kept him out against Atlético-MG. Returning to action, he scored again at Vitória with a fine free-kick at the Barradão. The team felt his absence, notably in their attacking depth.

His form has also been recognised by Paraguay, with a World Cup call-up and minutes in their opening game. He had been starting for Palmeiras before the tournament.

Sosa’s rise comes as Ferreira regains almost his full attacking arsenal. Paulinho and Vitor Roque have recently returned from injury, while Flaco López is back after the World Cup. Even so, Sosa continues to gain ground and looks an important option regardless of competition.

Versatile, quick and increasingly attuned to Palmeiras’ structure, he is stringing together consistent displays. His form heightens the battle for places up front and hands Ferreira more ways to shape his strongest team for the run-in.
