Trailing Gillespie in the betting is current Aberdeen CEO Alan Burrows at 4/1, whilst Hearts exec Andrew McKinlay is next at 11/2.

Craig Mather is 8/1 to return to the role he reprised in 2013, whilst current Rangers board member Fraser Thornton is 12/1 ahead of Gers chairman Andrew Cavenagh at 20/1.

Spokesperson for Poker Scout, Jeffrey McMillan, said:

“With the Rangers CEO vacancy yet to be filled, Jim Gillespie has emerged as the front runner for the role according to the latest odds.

“The lifelong fan is as short as 4/6, as the club reportedly close in on adding him to the hierarchy, ahead of Alan Burrows who is 4/1.

“Andrew McKinlay isn’t out of the running at 11/2, with ex CEO Craig Mather following on at 8/1. Fraser Thornton (12/1) and Andrew Cavenagh (20/1) make up the rest of the betting.”
