Rangers fans are paying the price yet again for another incompetent manager

Article image:Rangers fans are paying the price yet again for another incompetent manager

The most woeful manager in Rangers entire history has already been completely exposed and we’re not even halfway through August yet. Ibrox Noise was completely and vocally against the appointment of Russell Martin from day one. It was abundantly clear that this guy did not have the CV or the gravitas to be a Rangers manager. He was already out of his depth before he even got into the pool.

Yesterday’s dire draw with Dundee, which in itself Rangers were lucky to get, was yet another example of just how utterly inappropriate Martin has been as an appointment. We’re not sure exactly who can be pinpointed for making this choice. It was certainly Kevin Thelwell and Patrick Stewart of course, but whose number were they under? Whose bid were they running? Was this the previous regime or was this the Americans?

Either way, ultimately the Americans have endorsed and backed this and we cannot say that not enough money has been spent. 25 million or so has already been invested but therein is half of the problem. 15 million of that has been completely wasted down the chute. Thelwell Asgaard, Emmanuel Fernandez and Oscar Cortez have not exactly been value for that cash. Admittedly one of them was based on the earlier regime but still that’s money.

We could go into a whole bunch about the deals behind the scenes but the point really is that the same regime ultimately, regardless of whether it was the current or previous, has sanctioned and appointed Russell Martin. One of the worst Premier League managers there has ever been. A man who didn’t even win the Championship when he was down there and someone who Southampton fans ran out of St Mary’s.

This was a truly horrific appointment and now it is coming home unfortunately to roost for Rangers fans. Those with the give him a chance FFS or give him time FFS are starting already to quieten down. There is a lot less of that talk now because it is abundantly clear that Rangers cannot drop four points to Motherwell and Dundee inside two matches.

The last time Rangers had a start this bad was 1989. We knew the press would start to talk about that particular season pretty quickly. We remember it well. Our former assistant manager Kenny McDowell broke Chris Woods’ shoulder badly or at least hurt it enough as the two of them clashed on the opening day of that season and the St Mirren then man bundled the ball into the back of the net to create an opening scoreline of 1-0 for the visiting Buddies at Ibrox way back then.

The following week saw us travel to Easter Road where we lost again. At this point Rangers were bottom of the league rock-solid bottom. Obviously we haven’t won one and lost one but we came very close yesterday. Russell Martin is breaking all sorts of records just like Philippe Clement did and once again Rangers fans are paying the price for yet another piece of incompetence by our club.
