Rangers have spent £45M on a midtable SPL squad and it’s not just Thelwell to blame | OneFootball

If there’s one obvious problem which many Rangers fans are far from ignoring, it’s the midtable SPL-level quality squad the club now has.

It’s the calibre of squad Rangers fans would truly expect a club like Hibs or Motherwell to have, and trust us, they’re filled with internationals as well.

Difference

The difference is they don’t pay the numbers Rangers do.

The reality is Rangers currently have a slop squad, chock-full of mediocrity, players who might shine at low pressure Dundee United but at Rangers they drown.

The talent levels are filled with League One slop – your Gassamas, Fernandezs, Aasgards and Championship stuff like Rothwell and Dowell. They would under normal circumstances be at much lesser clubs, but no, Rangers had to change those plans.

Mediocrity

This is a deeply mediocre Rangers squad, as we say, good enough for a bog-standard SPL team, but not for Ibrox.

And that is making our club a bog-standard SPL team, nothing more.

We are now playing in Europe like a Hearts or an Aberdeen. These smaller clubs who drown in Europe and are out of their depth, but like the money.

And then you have captain James Tavernier making the most delusional nonsense that he thinks this Rangers can still qualify.

Reality

The reality is Nils Koppen and Kevin Thelwell have combined to build an utterly dire Rangers, both bringing in piles of trash and moving on.

There is absolutely no sign of an easy out of this.

How do you acquire a Rangers-level squad from scratch?

Walter Smith didn’t need to, he took PLG’s miserable squad, added 4 players to it for £2M total and suddenly we were Rangers again.

There is no blue knight out there who can do that for Rangers now.

It’s horrible to say it, but we cannot think of any way Rangers can get the squad and manager they need to be Rangers again.
