Rangers must properly replace Cyriel Dessers in January | OneFootball

While Bojan Miovski had finally his breakout performance at Rugby Park with the Macedonian scoring twice it does not change much up front. As we have already said on Ibrox Noise we need strikers. Youssef Chermiti has absolutely not delivered and has been an extraordinary waste of money. And while Danilo cannot play on his own up front he is a reasonably good goalscorer even if he is currently a bit out of form. But the Brazilian is not the answer and that is a bit disappointing for £6M.

Consequently as much as we want to moan about losing Cyriel Dessers there is not much point. Many fans are now wistfully looking back at the Nigerian striker who scored so many for Rangers and was unfortunately maligned by the majority of supporters who saw him as Bambi on Ice and wasteful. But the numbers never lied. Ibrox Noise always backed up the former Feyenoord man who is currently doing his thing in Greece. We always supported him even if he said the odd thing here and there that was not the wisest. But the reality is Cyriel Dessers was a much better striker than anything that we currently have. The numbers backed that up.

Now? We have scored fully 10 less than Hearts, 3 less than Celtic and absurdly 3 less than Motherwell. This is where the problem is – finding the back of the onion bag. One brace from Bojan doesn’t fix that overnight.

Miovski’s Display Doesn’t Fix the Issue

But today we definitely need somebody new. Bojan’s performance at Rugby Park does not change that we need at least another two sharp strikers. We reported recently how Rangers were interested in shipping both he and Chermiti out. Miovski’s performance at Rugby Park might have changed his chances of doing it at Rangers and remaining at the club. He is of course our player. He is not on loan. Chermiti sadly is also the same. But his time at Rangers has gone diabolically.

The Real Problem Remains Scoring

Rangers clearly need new strikers in January. It is a tough month to get anyone. But that is where the problems lie. Scoring goals. As we said before the defence is not even as bad as fans would believe. And the chances are being made up front but we are just not converting them. That is a big key problem.

Looking Ahead to January

Will new Rangers strikers come in in January? We certainly hope so. It is most definitely what we need. Danny Rohl will be well aware that his men up front are not delivering. Even if they manage to do better midweek. But we will see what happens this coming January.
