Rangers stretched their unbeaten run to 12 games as they overcame St Johnstone at Ibrox on Saturday afternoon.
Scorers: Tavernier (PEN) 15′, Kamara 57′
Remi Matthews was busy throughout the first half for the visitors between the posts, twice having to come up with big saves to deny Alfredo Morelos from close range.
When he was beaten on 15 minutes, there was little he could do about it as James Tavernier netted from the penalty spot following a disputed handball inside the area.
Ryan Kent also went close before the Saints’ Nicky Clark was sent off for a mistimed lunge at Ryan Jack, who was perhaps fortunate not to also see red for a poor tackle on Adam Montgomery, which was deemed worthy of a yellow after a VAR check.
Rangers put the result beyond doubt shortly before the hour mark thanks to some quick thinking from Morelos as he flicked on for Glen Kamara to finish for his first goal of the season.
Notably, Todd Cantwell impressed on his debut, while Ianis Hagi also made his long-awaited return from injury.
The result means Michael Beale’s side again close the gap on leaders Celtic to six points ahead of their clash with Dundee United on Sunday.
Elsewhere, Jim Goodwin’s time at Aberdeen looks to be all but over as his side followed up their Scottish Cup humiliation against Darvel with a 6-0 defeat to Hibernian.
