In what amounts to a very unwanted retrospective back to the 2012-2015 days for Rangers, Ibrox fans today cannot stand any of the Sporting Director, Kevin Thelwell, the CEO Patrick Stewart or manager Russell Martin. Rangers are trapped by the three stooges.
Ibrox Noise called this out months ago, it was a Rangers era and vibe we couldn’t relate to, much to the chagrin of many of our followers.
Followers who now agree with us and then some.
Let’s look at each man and explain the problem here…
We called him out before he was even appointed – this dismal fail presided over an abysmal Man Utd era, managing chaos for about a year at Old Trafford before parting company. When Ibrox Noise realised who was going to be Rangers’ new CEO, it was shaking of heads and exasperation. And at Rangers he’s been a disaster as well, with it being long-known he was the main force behind the appointment of Martin.
Stewart is a classic case of rot starting at the top. His decisions have been dire, and he’s the only man in Govan who has executive power. He basically does whatever he likes and always has. He is, let’s not forget, the only exec on Rangers’ board. Aside, obviously, Andrew Cavanagh and Paraag Marathe.
They don’t engage in the running of the club, he does it all, and went ahead with Martin with their blessing.
Stewart has been backed by the owners.
The Sporting Director in Govan was a fail at Everton as well. We don’t entirely want to judge a man on his appearance but he looks like an alcoholic and could do with a shave. It is, again, unfitting for Rangers to have guys who look this unkempt but there you go. Thelwell has overseen a quite staggering spend for Rangers this summer. He saw fit to sign Peterborough rejects and guys deemed not good enough for Bournemouth.
His biggest ‘credit’? The absolutely dismal Frank Lampard era at Goodison, in which we probably witnessed the worst Everton spell in living memory. He oversaw all football operations there, including recruitment. Is it any wonder Rangers are struggling?
Where do we start here? Only the current Rangers could find a less appropriate manager than Martin, a Southampton fail and arrogant to boot. This was Patrick Stewart and Kevin Thelwell’s appointment, and it definitely fits into the rest. We’ve said so much on Martin, we won’t repeat it all again.
So there you have it, the three stooges who have Rangers trapped in this horrific cycle of below mediocrity.
We have to hope the owners actually have ambition for Rangers or we will be stuck in this purgatory for a long time. Rangers are trapped by the three stooges.
