Rangers and Queen’s Park go head-to-head at Ibrox on Sunday in an all-Glasgow tie in the fifth round of the Scottish Gas Men’s Scottish Cup.

The Championship side were handed a lucrative and sporting lifeline into the last 16 after Stranraer were expelled for fielding an ineligible player, setting up a repeat of last year’s shock Spiders win at the same stage and venue.

Rangers vs Queen’s Park – Match preview and team news

  1. Date: Sunday, 8th February.
  2. Kick-off: 2pm BST.
  3. Venue: Ibrox Stadium, Glasgow.

Rangers team news

Rangers will again be without midfielder Connor Barron, who is expected to miss around eight to twelve weeks with knee ligament damage suffered in a 2–0 win over Aberdeen in early January.

Bailey Rice is also sidelined due to his muscle issue and will not be involved in this match in any way.

Derek Cornelius has been out since November with a significant muscle injury suffered on Canada duty. Although he is edging closer to fitness, he has only recently stepped up his rehabilitation after surgery and remains short of full match sharpness.

Danny Rohl is expected to rotate, with back‑up goalkeeper Liam Kelly, full‑back Max Aarons and midfielder Nedim Bajrami among those tipped to start against Championship opposition.

Queen’s Park team news

On the squad front, Queen’s Park have confirmed that right‑back Rocco Friel has returned to QPR after his loan expired in January, with youngster Magnus MacKenzie recalled from his own spell at East Kilbride to bolster defensive depth.

Bulgarian forward Nikolay Todorov has been added to the Spiders’ attacking options this month and is listed among their current forwards alongside Callum Smith, Michael Ruth and Liam McLeish, giving Crighton extra variety up front.

Crighton is likely to lean on creative trio Aidan Connolly, Grant Savoury and Sebastian Drozd behind the striker, with Drozd the club’s leading league scorer this term and the match‑winner at Ibrox in last season’s unforgettable cup upset.

Form

Rangers

Rangers have won 13, drawn four and lost just three of their last 20 games in all competitions, and are unbeaten in their last 10 domestic fixtures with eight wins and a draw, a run that has slashed the Scottish Premiership gap to leaders Hearts from 13 points to just three. They come to this match after a thumping win against Kilmarnock at home (5-1).

Queen’s Park

Queen’s Park reached this stage by beating Linlithgow Rose 3–1 away in the third round before a 1–1 draw and 6–5 penalty defeat at Stranraer in the fourth round, only to be reinstated after Stranraer were thrown out for fielding an goalkeeper Lyndon Tas, who was ineligible to play.

They are also bottom of the Scottish Championship after a 1–0 home defeat to Ross County last week left them 10th with 21 points from 22 games and a goal difference of –12.

Predicted lineups

Rangers: Kelly; Aarons, Djiga, Souttar, Meghoma; Chukwuani, Bajrami; Gassama, Naderi, Moore; Chermiti

Queen’s Park: Ferrie; Pignatiello, Murray, Shiels, Fieldson; Longridge, MacGregor; Connolly, Drozd, Savoury; Smith
