Rangers were initially concerned by the reaction of their fans to the prospect of hiring Danny Rohl as their next manager, according to the Guardian.

Supporters reacted negatively to the idea of the 36-year-old German succeeding Russell Martin at Ibrox.

However, the former Sheffield Wednesday boss is now expected to take over the reins and should be in the dugout when Rangers face SK Brann in the Europa League on Thursday.

Rohl pulled out of the race last week when it emerged that Rangers were in advanced talks to appoint Kevin Muscat.

However, the Shanghai Port manager has opted against joining the club, and they have turned their attention back to Rohl.

He has also been linked with the Norwich City job but it is believed he is closing in on being appointed as the next Rangers boss.

The German was close to being appointed this summer, but they turned to Martin. He lasted just 17 games in charge.

Rohl already had his backroom team lined up and was planning to bring a former Rangers star with him to Ibrox when he was first linked with the job earlier this month.

He will now hope to hit the ground running, given the enormous challenges which come with taking a job mid-way through a campaign.

A woeful start to the 2025-26 Premiership campaign has left Rangers 13 points off league leaders Hearts after eight games.

Rohl’s first league game in charge of Rangers would be against Kilmarnock at Ibrox on Sunday if all goes as planned.
