Raniele banned for Estudiantes tie, Conmebol fines Corinthians R$ 286,000 | OneFootball

Conmebol confirmed three sanctions on Corinthians. They include a two-match ban for Raniele that rules him out of next Wednesday’s Libertadores quarter-final against Estudiantes, and fines totalling US$ 56,000, R$ 286,000.

The disciplinary committee judged that the incident leading to Raniele’s red card against Rosario Central in the last 16 fell under Article 14 of the Disciplinary Code.

His suspension covers two games, including the automatic match served on Wednesday, for serious foul play using excessive force or brutality that endangered an opponent.

Conmebol also levied fines for incidents against Rosario Central at Neo Química Arena and against Peñarol at Campeón del Siglo in Montevidéu. The club were fined US$ 20,000 for objects thrown, US$ 10,000 for flares, US$ 8,000 for post-match interview irregularities, US$ 5,000 for improper messages and US$ 2,000 for other event issues, all related to Rosario Central.

There were further fines of US$ 5,000 for causing damage and US$ 2,000 for failing to provide travel schedule information against Peñarol, plus US$ 4,000 applied to Raniele. Head coach Fernando Diniz was warned for delaying the restart. The amounts will be deducted from prize money due to Corinthians.

After a 1-1 draw in Argentina, Corinthians and Estudiantes will decide the semi-final place in São Paulo. The winner progresses, another draw sends it to penalties.
