Claudio Ranieri is reasonably satisfied with how things are going at Roma and took stock of his 2024 talking to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sky).
“Avoiding relegation with Cagliari was nice. I thought I was retired, then Giallorossi called me. There’s always disorientation when you take over, and morale wasn’t great. We tried to bring back the enthusiasm. I like the double role as coach and executive. I’m convinced all our youngsters are good. I advised the brass to come to terms with Niccolò Pisilli and Mile Svilar as soon as possible. They must be serene and know that we count on them.”
Ranieri restarted from Mats Hummels, Paulo Dybala, and Leandro Paredes.
“They are World champions. There are no winning tactics in football but rather winning players. La Joya has to stay if he wants to. Lorenzo Pellegrini is a great guy and an exemplary professional, but he’s atypical for a Roman, as he’s an introvert. He has to recapture his smile, but we need the help of the fans too. He seems doomed now.”
Ranieri has his ideas for January.
“I’d be happy with two or three new pieces. It’s a difficult window because teams don’t want to sell.”
The veteran doesn’t rule out staying put.
“I decide with my heart and gut. I’m on a mission now and don’t think about the future. The fire was still burning last summer, but I wanted to see the world. I have a frank relationship with the owners. The buzz about Carlo Ancelotti is an urban legend. The truth is that I haven’t contacted anybody yet.”
Ranieri would like to involve Francesco Totti.
