Which clubs' stadiums have been the busiest and emptiest across the season's first two months

After the first eight matches of the 2026/27 Championship season, all 24 outfits will now take a three-week break due to an extended period of international action.

The second tier of English football, as ever, has already provided a plethora of dramatic storylines both on and off the pitch, even though the current campaign is only two months old.

The drama on the pitch has also been more than matched by the constant passion in the stands of many fanbases, even if their early-season fortunes have been far from smooth.

With that said, Football League World have looked at the current data and ranked all 24 stadiums in the division by how full they have been so far this term.

24 ? ? Ewood Park - Blackburn Rovers

The emptiest stadium in the Championship so far this season is Blackburn Rovers' Ewood Park, which has only been 44.1% full across four matches.

Rovers' ground is the eighth-largest in the division with a capacity of 31,367, but the club's current predicament, particularly through the Venky's ownership, is reflecting damningly on attendance figures.

23 ? ? Cardiff City Stadium - Cardiff City

Cardiff City's aptly-named Cardiff City Stadium is the second-emptiest ground in the division, with only 68.9% of the stadium's 33,280 seats being filled by Bluebirds and visiting supporters.

Brian Barry-Murphy's side haven't exactly had the smoothest return to the Championship, but they do remain unbeaten on home turf heading into the current break.

Charlton Athletic supporters haven't exactly been filling up The Valley in the season's early weeks despite their encouraging start.

Averaging attendances of 18,875 so far, it means that only 70.2% of the stadium's capacity has been filled, although that could soon increase if Nathan Jones' side continue to defy the odds.

Preston North End have made a dire start to the current season, winning just one of their first eight games whilst also parting company with Paul Heckingbottom.

The Lilywhites also have the third-worst home record so far, and the fanbase's current mood is reflected by the fact that only 71.2% of Deepdale has been filled on average since August.

The Bet365 Stadium has only been 73.9% full so far this season, despite Stoke City's recently impressive form under Mark Robins and an overall 30,089 capacity.

The Potters have never troubled the promotion picture since their last relegation from the Premier League eight years ago, but if such a trend was to be bucked, the aforementioned figure could take a massive increase as the season progresses.

Despite the club's lofty ambitions, Wrexham's Racecourse Ground has been the sixth-emptiest stadium in the Championship so far this season.

The historic stadium has been 78.9% full, although such figures are also impacted by the fact the Kop Stand is still being renovated, which is set to bring the current capacity up by 7,750 at the start of 2027/28.

Bramall Lane is one of English football's most historic grounds, but the atmosphere surrounding Sheffield United is far from positive right now.

Even though Blades fans are known for being some of the most passionate in the Championship, their stadium has only been 81.2% full so far this campaign, averaging attendances of 26,540.

Bristol City entered a new era under Michael Skubala this season, and are still averaging modest attendance figures at Ashton Gate despite the initial optimism which the club began the new campaign with.

Average attendances of 21,969 means that the BS3 ground has been 81.4% full in the season's early weeks, which can still be improved upon over time.

Derby County have only taken one point from a possible 12 at Pride Park so far this season and still sit inside the Championship's relegation zone during the international break.

As such, pressure has certainly begun to grow on the shoulders of John Eustace, with the home crowd in DE24, in particular, expecting more.

That said, 82.6% of the 33,597-capacity ground is still being filled on average.

Bolton Wanderers have had a mixed bag of results in their first four home matches after winning last season's League One play-off final, winning two and losing as many.

The Trotters have certainly maintained a strong core of supporters in this part of Lancashire in recent times despite fluctuating fortunes, and that has, unsurprisingly, remained the case post-promotion.

Average attendances of 23,724 so far puts them level with Derby on this ranking, with 82.6% of the stadium full.
