FC Barcelona kick off their La Liga campaign with a massive win over Elche away from home. The Catalan giants, despite being away from home, ran circles around their opponents during this game.
A 5-0 thrashing, several Barça players got their moment to shine while others will be looking to do better next time. Here are the ratings for Hansi Flick’s players following the victory.
Starting XI:
Joan Garcia: 8.0/10
Made some great saves during the game and his distribution was composed as well. Despite not being tested a lot by the opposition, Joan Garcia ensured that the Barça goal remained safe.
Eric Garcia: 8.0/10
Always willing to put a foot in whenever it was needed, he was particularly crucial during the first half when everything seemed a bit chaotic. Once it dialled down, Garcia was able to focus on his distribution primarily.
Andreas Christensen: 7.5/10
Not tested as much as Gerard Martin directly, but Andreas Christensen had some key interventions during the game. Solid performance from the Danish defender.
Gerard Martin: 8.0/10
More involved than his partner in defense, Gerard Martin was tested more by the Elche players during this game. However, he managed to hold his own well in his defensive contributions, and his distribution was reliable as well.
Xavi Espart: 8.5/10
Despite some shaky moments early on during the game, Xavi Espart grew into the match and began to dictate a lot of play whenever he got the ball. He also managed to grab an assist for Fermin’s second goal.
Marc Bernal: 7.0/10
Not at his absolute best in this game, Marc Bernal was clearly struggling with his passing and duels at times. However, he grew into the game more as it went on and delivered a decent outing by the end of the match.
Gavi: N/A
Despite looking promising early on, Gavi was unfortunately taken off during the first half due to some discomfort or injury.
Lamine Yamal: 6.0/10
Disappointing today, and it was clear to see that the young winger was fatigued or not fully fit. Squandered a few chances and looked extremely lethargic as well.
Fermin Lopez: 9.5/10
Intense in his movements and challenges from the very beginning, Fermin Lopez earned the right to be praised for his performance here. Moreover, he got a brace to his name as well with two very well taken goals.
Raphinha: 10/10
From his pressing to his clinical finishing against Elche, Raphinha ran the show in this game. Won a penalty and converted it to open the floodgates, and then proceeded to deliver key moments such as another goal and an assist as well.
Karim Adeyemi: 8.5/10
The German forward looked quite exciting in this game, and he has surely given Barcelona fans a lot to look forward to. Provided a few good passes, his pressing was impressive, his pace was certainly threatening, and he even managed to grab a goal on his official debut.
Substitutes:
Pedri: 9.0/10
Completely changed the rhythm of the game after he came on, and it went from a back and forth clash to one where Barcelona were in complete control. Several of his passes directly unlocked the Elche structure as well.
Anthony Gordon: 8.5/10
Brilliant debut from the English forward, who managed to grab two assists during this game. Beyond that, his pressing and coordination with his teammates was great to see as well.
Dani Olmo: 6.5/10
The Spaniard did well to link up with his teammates and looked solid when it came to building up play.
Joao Cancelo: 6.5/10
