Lamine Yamal, who is one of the most likely candidates to win the Ballon d’Or this year, is having a great start to the new season with FC Barcelona. However, the Spaniard had quite a mixed night as FC Barcelona faced Racing Club at the Spotify Camp Nou, even though his side once again showed their dominance with a 7-2 win.

The youngster was able to get on the scoresheet as he scored the final goal of the game, after Karim Adeyemi put the ball on a platter for him. However, he missed a penalty in the first half, and thus missed an opportunity to further increase his goal tally at this early stage of the season.

Still, there was no doubt about the effort made by the Spaniard, and Yamal gave an indication of how exhausting the match was by publishing a photo of himself lying face down on the ground amid rain after the full-time whistle.

As Mundo Deportivo has noted, his teammate, Raphinha, took this opportunity to make clear his feelings about who deserves the Ballon d’Or, as he reacted to Yamal’s post with the following message:

“You’re phenomenal. My Ballon d’Or winner.”

Raphinha himself was not in the 30-man shortlist for this year’s Ballon d’Or, which makes it even easier for him to root for Yamal. However, there is no doubt that the Brazilian would have celebrated Yamal getting the award even if he himself had been a contender, as the two share a very close relationship.

Raphinha had some words of encouragement and support for Lamine Yamal after the end of the game against Racing Club, and the two are often seen celebrating together when one of them scores a goal.
