Barcelona have made Raphinha their captain for 2026-2027, according to ESPN Brasil and Sport. The move follows the loan departures of Ronald Araujo to Liverpool and Marc-André ter Stegen to Ajax Amsterdam, last season’s first and second captains.

He would be the club’s first Brazilian to wear the armband. He is understood to have been preferred to last season’s third captain, Frenkie de Jong.

De Jong is set to serve as second captain, ahead of Pedri and Eric García in the hierarchy.

Raphinha joined from Leeds United in 2022 and has become a key figure in the Blaugrana project.

He finished fifth in the 2025 Ballon d’Or France Football, underlining his growing leadership.
