Manchester United’s inability to convert chances and score goals is a huge issue that manager Erik ten Hag needs to solve.

Last campaign, The Red Devils’ defensive issues alongside the lack of goals led to a negative goal difference come the close of the season.

Erik ten Hag will be eager to prevent this from occurring again this campaign, but in the opening weeks of the Premier League, similar patterns are emerging.

The Red Devils do not have a regular goalscorer, and the attack in general is not scoring enough goals, despite the amount of dangerous attacks being created.

Manchester United currently have the joint highest amount of big chances missed in the Premier League with nine.

If these chances start to be converted, Ten Hag’s side will be able to improve form and the results will follow.

New summer signing Joshua Zirkzee looks like a positive addition to the Manchester United squad but is not regarded as a prolific attacker, with creativity and link-up play more associated with the Dutch forward.

Rasmus Hojlund is the key to unlocking Manchester United’s attack

Young Danish forward Rasmus Hojlund made a huge £72 million switch to Old Trafford last summer.

The Dane doesn’t have huge experience at the top level but has shown glimpses of his potential.

Despite injuries and several months without a Premier League goal, Hojlund did impress in his debut campaign in England.

The former Atalanta striker managed to score 16 goals as a Red Devil with an impressive showing in the Champions League especially.

The 21-year-old will be looking to improve on his goal tally this season after being able to settle into the club.

Hojlund decided to swap his number 11 shirt for the famous number nine shirt that was available after the departure of Anthony Martial.

The Danish prospect gives Ten Hag a different profile to Zirkzee with the striker possessing a powerful presence accompanied by impressive speed to run at opposing backlines.

The former Ajax coach will also have the ability to play both young strikers with each other, there is a possibility that Zirkzee’s creativity will benefit Hojlund who will want more service than he received last year.

Manchester United fans will be hoping the return of Ruud van Nistelrooy will benefit Hojlund’s progression in becoming the main man to lead the line at Old Trafford.

The former Copenhagen star is still raw but his return to the squad will be welcomed by Ten Hag as he hopes to quickly turn around the club’s fortunes in the coming months.
