Giacomo Raspadori is the name sparking the transfer battle between Roma and Lazio ahead of January.
The Italian striker, who plays for Atletico Madrid, is finding little playing time in Spain, having played just 300 minutes or so overall this season.
According to Il Messaggero, fearing losing his national team jersey, the 2000-born striker has instructed his agents to bring him back to Italy.
The Giallorossi’s interest in Raspadori is not new: Roma had already attempted to acquire him last January, but it’s Gian Piero Gasperini who is pushing with conviction.
The Giallorossi coach explicitly requested him from Atalanta in January 2024 and is convinced that he can fit perfectly into their system thanks to his speed, passing ability, and one-on-one prowess.
While Roma is watching and hoping that Atlético Madrid can somehow make a move, Sarri dreams of him for his Lazio team. The Biancocelesti coach had already wanted him in the summer, when the transfer window stalled, and he sees him as an ideal addition to his attack.
However, to welcome Raspadori in January, Lazio would necessarily have to raise funds by selling players like Isaksen, Cancellieri, or Castellanos himself.
Although Lotito has an agreement with Insigne, Sarri has made it clear he has other priorities. Atlético Madrid paid €22 million for Raspadori, and prying him away from the Colchoneros will require a significant financial outlay.
Under certain circumstances, a full-blown transfer derby could therefore erupt between Roma and Lazio to secure the striker, who is seeking a buyout.
