Raúl Albiol said in a post that he will not be part of Pisa’s squad next season. The Spain centre-back made eight appearances this term for the Italian side, who were relegated to Serie B.

He described it as a difficult season and thanked the club, team-mates and supporters for their support over the year. He closed with a message of support for Pisa.

With the end of his playing days drawing closer, the former Valencia, Villarreal, Napoli and Madrid defender will decide in the coming days whether to keep playing or move into coaching.

The 2010 World Cup winner with Spain sees coaching as his post-career path and already holds the licence to work on the touchline.

Across a long career he has worked under leading managers including Luis Aragonés, Vicente del Bosque, Rafa Benítez, Unai Emery, José Mourinho and Manuel Pellegrini, experience he can draw on.
