The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reports that Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig are currently battling it out to secure the services of Catalan international Sergi Altimira. The Real Betis professional’s profile fits well with both Bundesliga clubs. The 24-year-old – with an estimated market value of €20m – will nevertheless not come cheap.

What are Sergi Altimira’s chances of transferring to RB Leipzig?

The FAZ reports that RB sporting director Marcel Schäfer is in “advanced negotiations” with Altimira’s entourage. Leipzig evidently wish to bolster their defensive midfield options in order to lessen the burden on 24-year-old Nicolas Seiwald. The German Red Bulls have been linked with Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Rocco Reitz and several other players in pursuit of this need.

Eintracht, meanwhile, find themselves stretched somewhat thin administratively following the sensational sacking of Dino Toppmöller over the weekend. The FAZ report suggests that the RheinMainAdler have only made a comparatively timid inquiry about potentially loaning Altimira out. Leipzig are thus ahead in the race.

Will Altimira move at all?

Marca reports that Altimira’s La Liga outfit was never particularly keen on letting him go. The fact that midfielder Sofyan Amrabat returned from the 2025 African Cup of Nations carrying an ankle injury decreases the chances that Altimira will be permitted to depart. Altimira may earn a role as a regular starter after fluctuating between Manuel Pellegrini’s starting XI and the bench all year.
