FC Red Bull Salzburg Women 2-0 SpG Südburgenland/TSV Hartberg (H/T:1-0). Goals: Plattner (43'), Akrap (90+4')
What a successful start to the ADMIRAL Women's Bundesliga season! Against SpG Südburgenland/TSV Hartberg, our team capitalised on their superior chances and weathered some tricky phases unscathed. A stunning free kick and a last-minute set piece ultimately decided the opening clash in our favour.
Our team got off to a better start at the Red Bull Football Academy. While the visitors were primarily focused on denying space, Pavlovic's charges went on the hunt for openings. New signing Maria Plattner started things off from distance, while Valentina Illinger and Greta Spinn also missed opportunities to convert excellent crosses.
After Katja Wienerroither – the captain had slipped past a cross – and Alessia Pamminger struggled to test goalkeeper Schvirjan, the Burgenland team ventured out of their defensive shell: Valerie Guha clawed a Csejtei shot away from the corner – a superb save!
The highlight of the opening half was to come from somewhere else, as Plattner fired a perfectly placed 23-metre free-kick into the top corner (43'). Practically on the stroke of half-time, we reaped the rewards of our hard work.

The second half was more balanced, partly because the visitors played with more attacking intent. The post prevented a second debut goal after a burst of energy from Triendl, while we faced a few chances – and both goalkeepers also made skillful saves (69' and 73').
In the final stages, when the visitors were unable to mount a comeback, only our team, and in particular Valentina Akrap, provided the decisive moment. The ball fell to the advancing centre-back after a corner, and from close range she sealed the 2-0 victory (90+4')!

The first few matches are always very challenging because you don't really know where you stand. Today there were phases where we played really well, and others where we struggled – and that's when you have to show character and mental fortitude. With a bit more luck, we could have scored the second goal a little earlier, then things would have been a bit calmer. But all in all, I'm very satisfied: first match, won, over and done with – we'll keep going!
