Our final ADMIRAL Women's Bundesliga away match of the year promises to be a special one: On Sunday, regular champions SKN St. Pölten will host us at the NV Arena for a showdown kicking off at 12:45 CET.
A lot has changed for the Lower Austrian side since our last encounter. Salzburg native Lisa Alzner has been relieved of her head coach duties, and Belgian Laurent Fassotte has taken over. A league defeat against Austria Vienna, coupled with a disappointing start to their Champions League campaign, proved to be too much for the team so used to success. St. Pölten had, after all, suffered only two defeats in domestic competition between May 2018 and our first meeting in September, but have now also been eliminated from the cup.
It helped that Jennifer Klein & Co. got their first points in the UEFA Women's Champions League in midweek against Valerenga Oslo, securing a respectable 2-2 draw against Norway's 2023 and 2024 champions after trailing by two goals.
Our team will naturally travel to the Lower Austrian capital with high ambitions. After reaching the ÖFB Women's Cup quarter-finals last week (the draw for that takes place Sunday evening), and with four wins from their last five league matches, they are aiming for points against the champions. In the first meeting, Pavlovic's team came close to a point, suffering a 1-2 defeat only in the final stages.
The big match will be shown live on ORF SPORT+ (starting at 12:40 PM), and ÖFB TV will also broadcast it.
We know what qualities St. Pölten possesses. For us, it's a great challenge, but also a great opportunity. We want to play boldly and push them to the limit. Matches like this are extremely valuable for our development. We can only gain – at least in experience, maturity and clarity.
Dusan Pavlovic
