FC Bayern Frauen will aim to extend their winning streak to nine matches in all competitions when they face PSG in Champions League action on Thursday night. The game will be played at the iconic Parc des Princes.
After their sensational comeback win against holders Arsenal in the Champions League, Bayern progressed to the quarter-final of the DFB-Pokal with a 3-0 derby victory over Ingolstadt. With a much-changed lineup, Bayern’s goals came after the half-time break.
Bayern have won every game they played since the 7-1 defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League opener. In his debut season, it’s very impressive that José Barcala managed to steady the ship after a huge setback.
The Frauen-Bundesliga champions leave it late to score their winning goals against Juventus and Arsenal. Experienced strikers Lea Schüller and Pernille Harder played starring roles, while Klara Bühl’s scintillating start to the season has many wondering if there is a better in-form player in women’s football.
In contrast, PSG are yet to take a point in the Champions League. After defeats to Wolfsburg and Real Madrid, they became the first team to score in the competition against Manchester United. However, the 2-1 defeat meant they’re now lost seven consecutive Champions League matches.
PSG didn’t have a league match on the weekend, and this will be their first fixture since the defeat at Old Trafford. Several of their French players faced Bayern’s German internationals in last month’s Nations League semi-final tie.
Bühl was an unused substitute in the DFB-Pokal tie, while Vanessa Gilles made her return from injury coming off the bench. The Canadian center-back has been on the sidelines since the end of October due to an injury.
