Luton Town have won the race to sign Giden Kodua on loan from West Ham
Reading FC and Leyton Orient have suffered a transfer blow following Luton Town’s move for West Ham youngster Gideon Kodua.
The Hatters have confirmed the deal for the 20-year-old as part of a loan agreement with the Premier League club.
It had been reported by Football Insider that there were multiple sides from League One eyeing a move for the forward, including the Royals and the O’s.
However, Kodua has now completed the temporary move to Kenilworth Road, becoming the latest addition to Matt Bloomfield’s side.
Kodua has completed his move to Luton on loan for the upcoming League One season.
The forward has made the switch as he looks to receive regular game time and experience at senior level.
Bloomfield has outlined his delight at bringing the West Ham player to Kenilworth Road for the campaign ahead.
The 41-year-old has highlighted the attributes that can make him a key figure in their promotion push, and believes fans will enjoy what he brings to the team.
“He’s a boy I love; he’s got a steel, a resilience and a determination about him,” said Bloomfield, via the official Luton website.
“He came through as captain of West Ham’s Under-18s and we signed him twice before, so it stands to reason we think a lot of him.
“He offers options both at wing-back, in attacking wide areas and in a high 10 position, and brings good dribbling ability while linking play.
“He’s got pace and power, he’s a great lad, and he will be someone who our fans will love watching.”
Kodua is Luton’s second loan deal of the summer, with Nigel Lonwijk also arriving on a temporary basis, joining from Wolves.
Meanwhile, George Saville, Hakeem Odoffin, Nahki Wells, Kal Naismith, Jake Richards and Josh Keeley have all signed on a permanent basis.
Bloomfield will be looking to build a team capable of automatic promotion straight back to the Championship.
Luton’s campaign gets underway with a home clash against AFC Wimbledon on 1 August.
Kodua spent two stints on loan at Wycombe Wanderers prior to this Luton move, with Bloomfield overseeing most of that time.
The pair know each other, and the Hatters’ boss knows what he can bring to the side.
The versatility that he’s highlighted could be quite important for the League One club this season.
