Espanyol and Real Madrid have collaborated in numerous deals over the years, the most recent of which was the transfer of Joselu to the Spanish capital.

The veteran striker, who has now left the club, played an important role in the team’s campaign across all competitions with his most significant contribution coming in the semifinal of the UEFA Champions League against Bayern Munich.

According to a recent update from MARCA, the hierarchy of Real Madrid and Espanyol met earlier today to discuss more such collaborations in the current summer transfer window.

Topics of Discussion

As reported by the Spanish outlet, Mao Ye and Fran Garagarza of Espanyol met with Real Madrid’s Jose Angel Sanchez and Manu Fernandez recently to discuss potential transfer operations between the two clubs.

The Catalan club aims to acquire some of Real Madrid’s lesser prominent stars to strengthen their squad, especially given Los Blancos’ need to facilitate some departures.

Among the names mentioned in the conversation were Mario Martin, Alvaro Rodriguez and Pablo Ramon.

The outlet furthers that while none of the players’ move to Espanyol is advanced as it stands, the possibility is open.

Promotion as a Potential Factor

Playing in the Segunda Division last season, Espanyol was not a promising destination for players moving out of top-tier clubs, especially at Real Madrid.

The Catalan side’s return to La Liga ahead of the 2024-25 campaign, however, changes the scenario.

With guaranteed minutes for the club in Spain’s elite division on the table, a move to Espanyol may appeal to Real Madrid Castilla players this time around.

With both clubs already negotiating, it may just be a matter of time before talks advance.
