As football’s largest institution, the pressure to deliver is always sky-high on Real Madrid’s managers. After all, the team are expected to perform without any slip-ups, and every small error is examined microscopically.

Xabi Alonso, in that respect, dodged the pressure from the Spanish media well at the beginning of his spell at the club. The team, after all, did decently at the FIFA Club World Cup and got off to a good start in La Liga as well.

Recent weeks, however, have seen the pressure on him multiply manifold, especially after the team lost to Liverpool and drew against Rayo Vallecano before the international break. Last night’s draw against Elche has not helped his cause.

As relayed by Tiempo de Juego in a recent report, the doubts in Madrid over Xabi Alonso’s management are growing with every passing day. The recent spell of results has brought out significant concern over whether he is the right man for the job.

The club are said to be pleased that the manager is making important changes, but there is simultaneous concern about the clear rift between Alonso and the dressing room.

After all, there is word that several key figures in the dressing room are discontent with the coach’s ideas and implementation – something that is not a sign for a healthy project.

Having already dropped points in three consecutive games, Alonso must turn the team’s fortunes around quickly if he is to regain the faith of the board.

However, that is easier said than done if he indeed has the dressing room against him, for the team do not appear to be giving their all on the field to churn out wins.

Alonso’s big mission at this point, thus, is to win back the dressing room, for a group of players who back and believe in the coach and will give their everything on the field. After all, the situation can go south very quickly at a club like Real Madrid if results do not improve.
