Over the past few days, there has been a lot of noise surrounding the future of Real Madrid captain and veteran defender Dani Carvajal.
The 34-year-old right-back’s current contract stands to expire at the end of the season and so far, there have been no negotiations over an extension.
For some time now, it was assumed that the Spanish international would remain at the club beyond the ongoing campaign.
But things have seemingly changed in recent weeks, with Carvajal barely playing under Alvaro Arbeloa over the past month despite having been back from his knee injury.
Now, MARCA reports that Carvajal’s departure in the summer is being ‘taken for granted’ by Real Madrid officials at Valdebebas already.
After the 34-year-old captain suffered an ACL injury back in 2024, Los Blancos were quick to extend his contract by one year.

However, things are being done differently this time around, with the right-back’s fitness causing concerns after he spent two months out of action due to a knee problem that required him to undergo arthroscopic surgery.
Carvajal, for his part, feels ready and prepared to play and even got the green light from a specialised hospital in London, where he underwent new tests on his knee last week.
However, Arbeloa has been reluctant to use him since his return, with Federico Valverde, David Jimenez, and Trent Alexander-Arnold being preferred at right-back over the veteran.
As such, the expectation at Valdebebas seems to be that Carvajal will be moving on from Real Madrid in the summer, bringing an end to a glorious chapter in his career.
