The big decision that awaits Xabi Alonso ahead of Real Madrid’s clash against Barcelona on Sunday is the situation of Kylian Mbappe and whether the manager opts to risk the player or not.
Mbappe missed the team’s clash against Atletico Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final, and in fact was not even present with the squad in Saudi Arabia.
It was only after the game that the manager revealed Mbappe’s improvement and sudden travel to Jeddah to link up with the team for the final.
Considering how the initial prognosis placed him out for a much longer duration, however, there is a sense of worry that Mbappe may be rushing into his recovery.
He will play a part tomorrow, but the uncertainty lies over whether he should start or not.
As confirmed in a recent report by L’Equipe, Mbappe indeed has serious chances of starting against Barcelona this weekend.
Real Madrid are desperate to have him back in the starting lineup, and the player is motivated to play the final for Los Blancos.

Yet, Mbappe does not wish to take any risks, and the actual decision will be made just before the game, based on his feelings.
Such is Real Madrid’s desperation to have the talisman available to start that they are considering giving him a painkiller injection to play against Barcelona tomorrow.
They see it to be a good idea for the striker to start against Barcelona and play with any small pain suppressed, and to subsequently rest him against Albacete and Levante next week to once again further his recovery.
Needless to say, it is debatable whether or not the aforementioned plan is a good one, for it directly jeopardises the star forward’s fitness.
While having Mbappe against Barcelona would be massive, risking a serious aggravation of his unhealed injury may not be the best way forward.
A final decision will be taken weighing both the pros and the cons.
