Real Madrid are doing their best to bring in Leny Yoro this summer to join their centre-back stable of David Alaba, Eder Militao and Antonio Rudiger. As things stand though, Jesus Vallejo will also be part of the competition.
The 27-year-old defender spent last season on loan at Granada, and like the previous two years at the Santiago Bernabeu, did not play much, albeit mostly due to injuries this time round. He has a year left on his deal, and according to Diario AS, has asked for one final chance at the club. While he was not in their plans, Real Madrid have left the decision in his hands.
Due to his professionalism, they are content for Vallejo to stick around even if he is not part of Carlo Ancelotti’s thinking. Equally, if a good offer comes in for him, Vallejo will be able to decide whether to take it, which was discussed in a recent meeting between the two parties.
Even if Yoro does not arrive, Real Madrid are thinking about another defender joining, rather than having Vallejo move up the pecking order. Save for half a season at Granada on loan four years ago, Vallejo has not played regular football, and his contribution is likely to be testimonial.
