Real Madrid have been handed an injury blow ahead of their Champions League home clash against Bayern Munich on Tuesday.
According to ESPN, Ferland Mendy has been practically ruled out of the crucial game against Bayern.
The 30-year-old missed the previous three La Liga fixtures due to a muscle injury.
He was expected to recover after the international break to be involved in the Champions League quarter-final first leg. But it appears his recovery is taking longer than expected.
Mendy could recover in time for the away leg on April 15.
Madrid head coach Alvaro Arbeloa is expected to start Alvaro Carreras at left-back, despite the Spaniard enduring a poor outing in Saturday’s shocking defeat at Mallorca.
Fran Garcia is also an option, but the former Rayo Vallecano star has mostly been introduced from the bench this season.
Madrid will be missing their first-choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who has been sidelined with a muscle injury. Andriy Lunin will continue between the sticks.
Daniel Ceballos and Rodrygo will also be absent, with the duo suffering from calf and ligament injuries respectively.
Los Blancos will focus on winning the Champions League, as their chances for the La Liga title are almost over following the 2-1 setback at Mallorca.
With eight games remaining in the season, Barcelona are seven points clear at the top.
Madrid face a tough challenge against Bayern, who have been impeccable under Vincent Kompany this season.
The Bavarians have lost only two games in all competitions this campaign.
