A while back, it was confirmed that Real Madrid defender Dean Huijsen would not feature for the Spanish national team tonight in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Georgia.
The reason for the 20-year-old centre-back’s absence was unclear, but he was one of three players left out of the matchday squad by manager Luis de la Fuente.
Now, providing an update on the situation, Mario Cortegana of The Athletic reports that Huijsen will miss the game against Georgia as he is experiencing groin discomfort.
As such, the Spanish international is set to undergo a scan to determine the extent of the problem that will keep him out of tonight’s match.

Based on the results of the scan, a decision will likely be made on whether Huijsen remains with the Spain camp or returns to Madrid to continue his recovery.
Real Madrid, for their part, will be watching the situation closely, having already seen two of their players – Kylian Mbappe and Eduardo Camavinga – return from the France camp with physical issues, although both are expected to be fit and available vs Elche.
It must be remembered that Huijsen had returned with a fitness issue from the Spain camp last month as well after being included in the squad. The 20-year-old defender then ended up missing two matches for the club.
Huijsen is understood to have suffered the discomfort during yesterday’s training session with the national team. Based on the results of the scan, a decision will be made on whether he continues with Spain or returns to the club.
