In light of Bayern Munich’s exceptional start to the new season, Dayot Upamecano has emerged as a top target for Real Madrid.

The Spanish giants are gearing up for an overhaul in the defensive department in the summer of 2026, with Upamecano emerging as one of the top candidates.

The Frenchman has been one of the standout players for a Bayern Munich side that has conceded only six goals in the Bundesliga this season.

However, his contract at Bayern expires at the end of the season, meaning he could be available as a free agent next summer, with Real Madrid interested.

Upamecano on his future amid Real Madrid interest

In a recent interview with L’Equipe (h/t Fabrizio Romano), Upamecano opened up about his future at Bayern Munich amid interest from Real Madrid.

“We’ll make the right decision. I’m well advised,” he said amid supposed talks with Bayern Munich, who are confident the player will renew his contract.

The Frenchman himself admitted he is happy at Bayern but acknowledged that there are other clubs interested in his services.

“I’ve always said I feel comfortable at Bayern. I have a great coach and teammates,” he said.

“I’m under contract at Bayern. I’m very grateful if there are clubs interested in me,” the former RB Leipzig defender added.

The statement from Upamecano is rather mixed and does not give out any hint about his desire so far. But it is apparent that the player is aware of the interest from Real Madrid, which is good news for Los Blancos.

With the January transfer window just around the corner, it will be interesting to see if Real Madrid can convince the Frenchman to leave Bayern and sign a pre-contract agreement with them.
