Real Madrid’s interest in signing a new midfielder for Jose Mourinho this summer is well documented, with different names doing the rounds.

Over the last 24 hours, the name of Enzo Fernandez has gained a lot of traction, with Madrid said to have resumed talks to bring him to the Santiago Bernabeu.

However, according to MARCA (h/t RM4Arab), Enzo’s name does not currently appear in Real Madrid’s transfer plans despite all the chatter.

The report adds that Madrid believe much of the noise is coming from the player’s agents rather than from genuine interest inside the club or from Jose Mourinho himself.

This is a tactic that many agents deploy to drum up interest in their players during a transfer window, and the club believe that is what Enzo’s camp are doing.

Agent noise or real opportunity?

This is exactly why Real Madrid must stay disciplined in the transfer market. Enzo is an excellent midfielder, but not every elite name linked with Madrid is part of a real plan.

There is a difference between liking a player’s profile and working seriously on a transfer. Madrid may admire Enzo’s quality, but it looks like a move is not concrete.

Madrid already have major midfield decisions to make, especially with Fede Valverde expected to stay and become captain, while Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga’s futures are far from certain.

Before chasing a hugely expensive Chelsea player, Madrid need clarity on who leaves, how much money arrives and what Mourinho truly wants in midfield.

Real Madrid should not be used

Real Madrid’s name carries enormous power. Agents know that linking a player to the Bernabeu can create pressure, raise value or attract other clubs.

The club cannot stop every transfer link, but what they can do is avoid reacting to it. If Enzo is not in the plans, nothing changes for Los Blancos.

Enzo makes a lot of sense for a Mourinho team, though. He is intense, technical and proven at a high level. However, he is unlikely to arrive cheaply.

It remains to be seen how the Enzo-Madrid situation develops in the coming weeks. The Spanish club could very well make a serious push to sign the 2022 World Cup winner, and only time will tell how things play out.
