Real Madrid’s first game back at the Santiago Bernabeu after suffering back-to-back defeats to Barcelona and Albacete was against Levante, and they were welcomed by hostile jeers.
The reaction was expected from the fans, and the players were prepared for it, knowing full well that they had not given enough in recent games.
Yet, the fact that the boos continued through the ninety minutes seriously affected the dressing room.
After the game, there were strong messages sent from internal sources that the players felt sad and shocked by fans’ reactions and that fans were ‘never really one of them’ if they supported them through highs and abandoned them in their low moments.
Now, in a recent report by Cadena SER, it has come to light that the dressing room managed to take strength from the message delivered by fans that night.

While the Merengues were indeed disappointed and hurt by the boos at first, it soon turned out to be the turning point in the season for them. All in all, it has had a massively positive effect on the players.
According to locker room sources, the squad became more united after the Levante clash when they were booed by supporters, and the energy in the dressing room has been completely different since that incident.
In many ways, the fans’ reaction was fruitful, and the purpose of their protest has been achieved.
The difference is visible in Real Madrid’s on-field performances, for they have looked far better in the last two games than they have in recent months.
Their 6-1 win over AS Monaco, in fact, turns out to be their biggest win in a long time.
