Real Madrid has announced the unavailability of their midfielder Dani Ceballos, who sustained a right calf injury, according to an official statement released this Sunday.
Medical tests have confirmed a muscle injury that will keep him off the pitch for several weeks. According to the Spanish press, his absence could stretch to as much as seven weeks—over 45 days on the sidelines.
In their press release, the Madrid club stated: "Following tests carried out today on our player Dani Ceballos, a muscle injury in the right calf has been diagnosed. His progress will continue to be monitored."
This injury comes at a crucial stage of the season. Real Madrid is locked in a fierce battle for the top spot in La Liga against FC Barcelona, all while preparing for a pivotal second-leg playoff against Benfica, aiming for a place in the UEFA Champions League round of 16.
On Saturday, Los Merengues suffered a 2-1 defeat away to CA Osasuna on Matchday 25 of La Liga—a setback that could cost them the top spot should FC Barcelona win against Levante UD.
Heavily criticized after losing possession in the final minutes against Osasuna, leading to the decisive goal for the opposition, Dani Ceballos responded swiftly. On his social media channels, the Spanish midfielder fully accepted responsibility and issued an apology, showing a clear-headed and accountable attitude.
