A recent report from Defensa Central has revealed a fresh twist in Real Madrid’s summer transfer planning, with Borussia Dortmund attempting to open negotiations for Nico Schlotterbeck by putting a surprising name on the table – Gonzalo García.
Schlotterbeck has been on Real Madrid’s radar for some time and has now emerged as one of the club’s primary objectives to reinforce the centre-back position next summer.
With defensive changes expected at the Santiago Bernabeu, Madrid are actively exploring different routes to secure a long-term solution, and the German international fits the profile the club is looking for.
Dortmund, however, believe they can influence the direction of the deal with their latest proposal.
At present, Real Madrid are leading the race to sign Schlotterbeck. Dortmund are open to negotiating and view Madrid as an ideal partner to do business with, but they have already made their conditions clear.
Schlotterbeck’s contract runs until 2027, yet Dortmund are increasingly pessimistic about renewing it.

Talks have taken place, but they have failed to produce an agreement. As a result, the centre-back is open to the idea of a move next summer.
Now, the Bundesliga side is not interested in a straightforward sale alone and would prefer to include Gonzalo Garcia as part of the operation if a deal is to be completed.
Dortmund are known for investing in young talent and believe the Real Madrid forward would be a strong addition to their project.
Despite Dortmund’s audacious attempt, though, all indications suggest Real Madrid will reject the proposal.
The club view Gonzalo as a key player for the future and have no intention of sacrificing him as part of a defensive deal.
While negotiations for Schlotterbeck are expected to continue, Madrid will be clear that they want the defender, but not at the cost of a talent they see as integral to their long-term plans.
