Real Madrid suffered their fourth defeat under Alvaro Arbeloa against Getafe on Monday, leaving them four points adrift of Barcelona in La Liga. Supporters responded with fresh calls for club president Florentino Perez to step down.

According to Marca, 'Florentino, resign' was chanted at full-time before the public address system cut in. Criticism has centred on Perez’s decision-making, with recruitment seen by many as falling short.

Questions persist over the squad, though the manager is not being blamed to the same extent. Reports in Madrid have also cast doubt on Arbeloa’s future beyond the summer, with the Getafe loss heightening concern in the dressing room and the presidential box. If he were to depart before next season, it would make a fourth coach in two years trying to steady the side.

It was the second time this season Perez has been singled out in the stands. Six weeks ago, during the interval of Real Madrid’s 2-0 home win over Levante, unrest followed their Copa del Rey exit to Albacete and a Spanish Supercup final defeat to Barcelona.

On that earlier night, players including Vinicius Junior, Fede Valverde and Jude Bellingham were loudly whistled, whereas this time frustration was directed solely at Perez. After the Levante game, Arbeloa said those chanting were not genuine Real Madrid fans. Open dissent towards Perez has been rare in his second spell, with similar public questioning not seen for around a decade before 2026.
