Real Madrid’s long-term project, built around elite attacking talent, is beginning to show visible cracks.

What was once viewed as a dream pairing is now turning into a complicated balancing act for Florentino Perez, with fresh revelations from SPORT highlighting a growing internal dilemma involving Vinicius Jr. and Kylian Mbappe.

The early expectation was to combine two of the most decisive forwards in world football and dominate both domestically and in Europe.

Instead, Real Madrid have found themselves searching for rhythm.

Across two seasons, the connection between Vinicius and Mbappe has failed to reach the level required to consistently carry the team.

Their individual brilliance remains undeniable, but as a duo, the output has often looked forced rather than fluid.

There is a problem

This situation has naturally triggered deeper conversations. Within the club, there is now a genuine debate over whether persisting with both players is sustainable from a sporting perspective.

Notably, the drop in silverware since Mbappe’s arrival has only intensified that scrutiny, particularly when compared to the period where Vinicius was the undisputed focal point of the attack.

What makes the situation more delicate is the atmosphere inside the dressing room. While there is no outright conflict, clear divisions are starting to form.

As per the outlet, some players are behind Mbappe, while others are unconvinced by his on-pitch contribution to the collective structure.

What about Vinicius?

Vinicius, for his part, brings a different kind of challenge. While he has not been linked to internal unrest, his contract situation is becoming increasingly sensitive.

With his current deal running until 2027, the Brazilian is pushing for a salary that does not place him below Mbappe in the wage hierarchy.

That position has created a standstill in negotiations, adding financial tension to an already complex sporting issue.

As far as Perez is concerned, both players are global superstars and central to the club’s commercial power.

Shirt sales, sponsorship appeal, and global reach are all tied to them, which is why letting go of either would not just be a football decision – it would cause financial consequences.
