Real Madrid fund spree by selling academy products as Barça begin to follow | OneFootball

Real Madrid have financed about 210 million of a 225 million euros summer outlay by offloading academy players, while Barcelona have raised around 44.5 million via similar deals.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, Madrid spent 125 million on Diomande, 55 on Cucurella, 25 on Espí and 20 on Dumfries. The club retains buy-backs, matching rights or 50% stakes.

Of 13 fee-earning academy exits, only Gonzalo García, 40 million, was in the first team. He joined Álvaro Arbeloa’s Fulham, along with César Palacios, 10, and Manuel Ángel Morán, 4. Jacobo Ortega, 10, Víctor Valdepeñas, 8, and Fran González, 3, also departed.

Biggest gains came from sell-ons after previous 50% sales: Víctor Muñoz, 20.5, Mario Gila, 15, Álex Jiménez, 12.5, Álvaro Rodríguez, 12.5, Chema Andrés, 11.5, and Mario Martín, 3. Several never debuted for the seniors.
