Real Madrid have submitted all available evidence to UEFA over racist incidents directed at Vini Jr during the Champions League match at Benfica on Tuesday, 17 February, the club said in a statement.

Vinicius Jr scored the winner four minutes into the second half and celebrated by dancing. Benfica players reacted angrily and a confrontation followed.

Prestianni, one of those who confronted him, called the former Flamengo forward a ‘macaco’. The referee activated the anti-racism protocol and halted the game in Lisbon, Portugal.

After about 10 minutes, play resumed. Prestianni was not punished and stayed on the pitch until the 35th minute of the second half.

Real Madrid have cooperated actively with UEFA’s investigation into the incidents. The club also thanked the global football community for its unanimous support of Vinicius Jr and will continue working with institutions to eradicate racism, violence and hate in sport and society.
