The 2025/26 season has been a difficult one for Real Madrid defensive heavyweight Antonio Rudiger.
Injuries and fitness problems have had a big impact on his form and availability, with the German international playing only 11 matches this season. His absence, in turn, has hurt Real Madrid, even more so with Eder Militao also being sidelined with injury.
Having spent the last month or so on the sidelines, Rudiger made his return to action last weekend against Real Sociedad and started this week against Benfica as well. And the difference is there for everyone to see.
Indeed, as reported by AS, after overcoming two injuries, Rudiger is now at 100% fitness and Real Madrid look a much better team with him back.
Early in the season, Rudiger had a tear in the rectus femoris of his left leg, which ruled him out of 15 matches from September to December. Later on, discomfort in his left knee caused him to miss seven matches from January to mid-February.

Set to turn 33 years in a little over a week, with premature osteoarthritis and after two injuries, he has returned at an outstanding level.
Since his comeback, Real Madrid have conceded only one goal, and it was from the penalty spot against Real Sociedad – conceded by Dean Huijsen. On that night, he recorded a 91% pass completion rate and won three duels.
Against Benfica, he once again managed a 91% pass accuracy, completing 58 passes, while winning four duels.
With Rudiger back roaring, he is now expected to push hard for a regular starting spot, putting Raul Asencio and Dean Huijsen at risk of losing their place. And the 32-year-old defender feels strong, confident and capable of achieving his goals.
