In recent days, there has been speculation about Massimiliano Allegri potentially becoming Real Madrid’s next coach.

Building on that, Italian media (h/t Defensa Central) has also reported that the manager would like the Spanish capitial club to sign Luka Modric again.

According to those reports, Allegri would want the Croatian midfielder, who bid goodbye to Real Madrid last summer and signed for AC Milan, where his contract expires at the end of the season.

However, such a scenario is considered impossible, as the player already said goodbye to the club as a legend and will turn 41 in September.

Modric himself addressed the rumours after playing with AC Milan against Inter Milan.

“Rumours about Real Madrid? There are always rumors about Real Madrid, but I don’t get involved in these things. I’m very happy in Milan,” said Modric after the Inter Milan match.

“I’m really glad to see Sergio [Ramos], he wrote yesterday and said he was really looking forward to this match. Having him here, and with a victory, is even better! Today we had a bit of Sergio Ramos’s spirit,” Modric added.

The Croatian veteran is aware that returning to Real Madrid as a player is not realistic. His time as a footballer at the club he considers the best in the world ended last summer.

It was an emotional farewell for him, as he has made it clear multiple times that he would have liked to retire wearing the Merengues shirt.

However, the club’s leadership believed the moment had come to go their separate ways and renew the midfield of the team.
